The Average American Eats 1,996.3 Pounds of Food a Year

whatareweeatingagain.png

According to this chart from Visual Economics, the 1,1996.3 pounds a year eaten by the average American includes 29 pounds of french fries, 23 pounds of pizza, 53 gallons of soda, and untold calories from a bunch of other things that would probably make Marion Nestle and Michelle Obama very, very unhappy. But on the plus side, those 1,1996.3 pounds also include 415.4 pounds of vegetables. Of course, they're probably sitting on top of a pizza or beneath a layer of deep-fried breading, but hey, you take what you can get.

Do vegetables include potatoes in that chart?  Because if so, that number makes sense.  Also, doesn't the non-cheese dairy component seem inexplicably large?  How much milk are adults drinking?
