Lopate loves locavores.
'Tis the silly season for food festivals, and for the second year in a row, WNYC host Leonard Lopate is getting in on the act with Lopate & Locavores, a three-day event that will explore zeitgeisty issues relating to today's food movement.

On September 27, Dan Barber, Adour's Didier Elena, and Jack Algiere, the farmer who supplies most of Blue Hill's produce, will discuss the art of cooking vegetables, complete with a demo on how to can said vegetables.

On October 5, Eric Ripert will be on hand to talk about sustainable seafood with Carl Safina, the president of the Blue Ocean Institute, and Long Island oyster farmer Karen Rivera will demonstrate how to shuck (and hopefully eat) the bivalves.

And on October 12, Pizza a Casa's Mark Bello, Hot Bread Kitchen's Jessamyn Waldman, and Sullivan Street Bakery's Jim Lahey will talk about all things bread- and grain-related. Lahey will also demonstrate his storied no-knead method, which may incite much drooling.

All of the discussions take place at the Greene Space, and tickets can be found here.
