A team of scientists has recently given alcoholics another excuse not to seek help.

Swedish researchers claim to have found a genetic link between alcoholism and premature death, according to a recently released report.

Alcoholics everywhere have reacted positively to the research, since it suggests that they're not responsible for their fates so much as their genes.

The analysis has also sent shockwaves through the medical community, which previously believed that alcoholics lived long, healthy lives.

The study, conducted at Gothenburg's Sahlgrenska Academy, suggests that the genes behind alcohol dependency also cause other lethal symptoms, as noted on Health Canal.

In most people, a strip of DNA lets the body efficiently use dopamine -- a chemical that helps you feel happy and motivated.

What the Swedes have found: People who hit the bottle have an abnormal version of this gene, so it doesn't work as well.

Even after treatment for alcoholism, they tend to relapse and die from drink.

The study, titled "No Shit! This Actually Got Funding?" will be released in Issue 46 of the Journal of Alcohol and Alcoholism.

Memo to Swedish researchers: don't spend so much as kroner to confirm the results, just call anyone who's gone through Drivers' Ed here in the states. We got the 411 for ya.
