Rejoice Ye Procrastinators: Fresh Turkeys Still Available at Union Square Greenmarket

Despite intermittent heavy rains and bone-chilling cold, the Union Square Greenmarket was mobbed this afternoon with locavores and non-can-ovores seeking supplies for tomorrow's pig-out.

The procrastinator's friend, DiPaola Turkey Farm

Miraculously, turkeys, turkey parts, and turkey substitutes were readily available, including whole turkeys and skin-on turkey breasts at DiPaola Turkey Farm, who will be open till about 5:30 p.m. or thereabouts.

Other stalls tried the old bait and switch: Tamarack Hollow Farm tried to convince you with signage to eat one of their hickory-smoked hams instead, while Garden of Spice Poultry Farm offered humongous ducks. Meanwhile, all the squashes, rutabagas, yams, potatoes, cranberry sauce, and all the other fixin's were available.

Better get going right now.

What the hell is a rutabaga, anyway? And why are they so big?

How about some ham, instead?

Or duck?

Fresh yams were everywhere, but don't you dare put marshmallows on them!

I literally was blocked by a lady holding a big, fat turkey in Whole Foods yesterday. I didn't get to stop by the greenmarket today due to the rain early today. Is it open on Friday, you know? Beats fighting in department stores on Black Friday.
