Study: Canned Food Might Make You Impotent

Scientists have discovered another reason why those empty cans of SpaghettiO's littering your mom's basement apartment won't get you laid: Something in the packaging could make you impotent.

Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health fed human subjects canned food for a five-day period, The Atlantic reports.

They wanted to measure how much BPA -- a chemical released from metal cans and plastic bottles -- actually wound up in the human guinea pigs' systems, as the substance is linked to health problems ranging from diabetes to cancer to erectile dysfunction.

What the scientists found: Urine samples from the 75 volunteers showed that eating a can of soup per day prompts a 1,221 percent increase in BPA levels.

Researchers don't know whether the upswing lasts long-term.

Still, they think that in-depth trials are necessary to figure out how the chemical affects human health.

"We've known for a while that drinking beverages that have been stored in certain hard plastics can increase the amount of BPA in your body," lead author Jenny Carwile told reporters. "This study suggests that canned foods may be an even greater concern, especially given their wide use."

I never eat or drink anything from a can. (They don't have fresh food in tins and they don't put wine in cans.)

An aspect of the BPA story that's getting somewhat shortshrift is the deleterious effects BPA is having on developing boys and young men.  There is a strong correlation between the rise of corporate America's use of Bisphenol Aand the bizarre and creepy side effects starting to manifest in developing boys and young men: 1.) more boys are being bornwith undescended testicles than ever before, 2.) more boys are being born with thedischarge hole of the penis located further down the shaft, 3.) adolescent boys and young men todayhave lower sperm counts than young men did 30 years ago, 4.) adolescent boys and young mentoday have lower testosterone levels than young men of 30 years ago, 5.)boys and young men have brittler bones and suffer fractures at ahigher rate than boys and young men of 30 years ago.  Studies have indicated that industry's use of BPA is the likely culprit (see Dr. Sax's chapter on this topic in his seminal book 'Boys Adrift').  The rise of industry's use of BPA very well could be permanently warping the developmentalprocesses involved in creating a human male.  I find it somewhat curious that the aforementioned side effects aren't quite trumpetedabout in the mass media like they should be.

Nah, there are amphora that have lasted unbroken since the 2nd century BC, why would I try to store things in Napoleon's inferior invention.
