Christmas-colored guac at Toloache 82

While doing some reconnaissance for Our 10 Best Upper East Side Restaurants, we paid a visit to Toloache 82, the newest branch of the Toloache empire, which opened several weeks ago. Inspired by the colors of the Christmas season, we opted for the rojo, or red, guacamole to begin our meal.

The guacamole, which is also available at the original Toloache (but not Toloache Taqueria), gets its rust-colored hue from chopped tomatoes, minced red onion, and pureed chipotle peppers, which also give the guac a faint spicy smokiness. A sprinkling of queso fresco completes the dish, just like snow on the mountaintop. Tasty, and festive for the holidays, indeed.

I love Toloache's new location on the Upper East Side is even better than their other locations! I definitely did not think that was possible. Regardless, the food is still amazing! One of the best spots for Mexican in NYC!
