Village Voice Vino: The Best Wine in New York City

Do you enjoy savoring your Village Voice every Wednesday morning with a steaming cup of coffee? Well, here's a much tastier, boozier way to start the day: Village Voice Vino. Yep, we got ourselves a wine.

We teamed up with local wine producer City Winery to create a 2009 vintage that's a blend of two Cabernet Sauvignons from Mendocino and Napa Valley plus Merlot from Napa Valley. This bold red is lush and juicy, and has subtle hints of anise and toffee, some notes of toasted bread and nuts, and a silky finish.

"I met with Josh [Fromson, publisher of the Village Voice] and we tried several blends," explains City Winery winemaker David Lecomte. "Our final choice was to add 3 percent of the 2009 Petit Verdot to fine-tune the wine's palate, increasing the length and finish of the wine."

Lecomte notes that in creating the wine, he was searching to create a drink that offered aromatics of leather, blond tobacco, and a hint of sage herb. (Leather, tobacco, and herb: Sounds about right for this alt-weekly!) Pair it with your next steak dinner, or just drink the whole bottle while listening to "Red Red Wine" on repeat (no shame).

Village Voice Vino is available exclusively at City Winery for $25 for a 750-milliliter bottle. However, the bottle can be yours for a mere $12 with this Village Voice Daily Deals offer. At that price, might as well screw our boozy gift guide and just get everyone this.
