New Petey's Burger to Open in Long Island City

Petey's is the closest we have to California's In-N-Out Burger.

You may or may not be excited to learn that another Petey's Burger is scheduled to open in Long Island City, at the corner of 47th Avenue and Vernon Boulevard in the far southwestern corner of the neighborhood, not far from the first stop into Queens on the 7 train.

Time Out already has announced that the place is open, but, take it from us, we've actually stopped by, and it's going to be a couple of weeks at the least before it opens. A call is in to the management to find out the approximate date.

Petey's Burger -- the Astoria one, at least -- limits itself to California "in the garden" style burgers, fries, and shakes. Recently, we declared it one of the top 11 burgers of 2011.

(Update: Received an email from Pete of Petey's saying the place would be open in 10 to 20 days.)

"First stop into Queens on the 7."  Yea, when the mta decides to run it, that is. I'm a little bitter about the news the 7 will be down for 10 weekends in a row.  At least I'll have a new burger place to console me.

It's on 47th Avenue, not street. Welcome to Queens, home of the STreets, Roads, Drives, and Avenues that share the same numbers.

Pete's a good guy - the success is very well deserved - although we still miss Uncle UJ's in Forest Hills!!! Congrats Pete!!!

Thanks Wrightgirl, love the screwball grid! Will fix. It's because Queens remained a collection of small towns until a rather late point in the city's history -- and still is, to a large extent. The grid was imposed to try to tame that.

I also missed UJ Diner. Not the best of offers in FH, but the service is always friendly and it's just a neighborhood joint to boot.
