A view from outside

Only, oh, half a year after it was supposed to open its doors, Silver Spoon (53 East 8th Street, 212-995-1100) has brought 8th Street the futuristic deli it didn't know it needed.

And inside

Although we only passed by and didn't have a chance to sample any of the offerings, you'll find all the upscale deli staples, including made-to-order sandwiches and salads, plus sushi, udon noodle soups, and various snack foods. There's decent seating, and everything still has that sparkling new feeling, but probably best of all is that everything is currently 50 percent off during the grand opening.

I still miss the *real* deli that used to be right there, the Korean Sunshine Deli. But I suppose a family-run deli that sells a big selection of fresh fruit and vegetables is just so passé now.
