American Garbology 101

You don't need to watch Futurama* to know that in the future, our grotesque output of garbage will come back to haunt us. Or, as Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Edward Humes puts it, "We don't see the consequences of our wastefulness."

Have a listen to NPR's interview with Humes about his latest book, Garbology: Our Dirty Love Affair With Trash, to get schooled.

"We are eating the fish that are eating the plastic, but the scarier part is that these little bits of plastic become sponges for some potentially dangerous chemicals that are released into the marine environment and we may be ingesting that too."

Bad news, everyone.
