IHOP Bacon Smell Is Driving Some East Village Residents Crazy

Some East Village residents may never eat bacon again ...
Living near the IHOP on East 14th Street is not a good idea if you don't want your apartment to constantly reek of bacon grease. At least that's what the residents who live near the diner and have been writing to EV Grieve have been saying. One resident of a building behind the IHOP wrote this in an email sent to the website: "Several days will go by without much of a problem, and then the stench will begin again. Sometimes, like this morning, it will just be for an hour or two, but then there will be a couple of days when it is just never-ending. Right now, it's a low-level stale smell. My neighbors and I have repeatedly contacted CB6, the DEP, Rosie Mendez's office, you name it -- IHOP is still stinking up the neighborhood. Please, please don't go to IHOP."

EV Grieve has been documenting these complaints since last fall, but apparently IHOP has made no effort to rein in its bacon fumes, even though the director of operations of the franchise that owns that IHOP, Ed Scabbaoueci, told The Local East Village via e-mail that the company had hired an engineering firm to look into the ventilation problem. Some residents are expecting the situation to get worse come summer when they are forced to open their windows because of the heat.

Pigs rule!  Leave the pig alone you gentile hating sons of bitch bastards.  The pig IS western civilization as it is the most efficient means of protein intake and as an omnivore, like humans, it can migrate and feed off of anything, unlike the cow which needs grass and open spaces.  If everybody stopped hating pigs there would peace in the Middle East and Jew, Arab and Gentile could all sit around and feast of some bbq ribs and some slab-back bacon.  Fo Shizzle!

Please leave all things pertaining to the much maligned pig alone.  This must be some type of anti-gentile conspiracy.  The pig is synonymous with western civilization as it is the most efficient and economic way to consume protein because the pig is an omnivour like humans so it can feed off of anything, unlike the cow which needs grass which limits its breeding to open spaces.  Pigs rule!

rein in not reign in.  reign has to do with kings and queens.

I totally sympathize and agree with them, the smell of bacon is atrocious, besides that its a proven fact that its bad for your health, I would not live for free in an area where the  aroma of bacon  is stinking up the environment and even more importantly ones soul.

I have worked in food service for 2 decades. It seems to me that if it was the cooking that was causing the smell you would also expect odors of meat, onions, and fries to also be wafting through the air. The fact that the odor comes and goes for a few days suggests to me that it maybe the grease traps the are the cause since they are cleaned out frequently depending on the size of the containment unit. Being NYC it us probably relatively small do to space restrictions  That would be the first place i would look. Check to see if they have outside grease containers.

". . . reign in . . .?" Do you folks not have editors? It's "rein in," of course, as to rein in a horse. You should know this.

We are DNA wise similar to the pig.  We are practically brothers.  It wouldn't surprise me if UFOs had sex with pigs and we were the offspring.  When you respect the pig you respect yourself as the pig has born the brunt of millennia of negative stereotyping.  Oink! Oink!

Replying to my own post. Of course the question mark and the quotation mark should be reversed above. Yeah, I look like a fool -- but remember, I'm not getting paid to write here. And "reign in" is still a dumb mistake.
