Pom Wonderful Pomegranate products have long claimed that they can "treat, prevent, or reduce the risk of heart disease, prostate cancer, and erectile dysfunction."

It might be loaded with antioxidants, but according to a recent judge ruling--the claims simply do not hold up. The judge ordered POM to stop all claims of health benefits or performance for its juices unless the representation is not misleading.

NPR reports that company has invested over $35 million to scientific research validating the health benefits of the pomegranate and pomegranate juice.

The company has since fired back against the FTC with a series of tongue-in-cheek advertisements quoting a "FTC Judge" describing the product as a "Natural Fruit Product With Health-Promoting Characteristics."

"Through its lawsuit against POM, the FTC tried to create a new, stricter industry standard, similar to that required for pharmaceuticals, for marketing the health benefits inherent in safe food and natural food-based products. They failed," Craig Cooper, chief legal officer for POM states in a press release.

The FTC's response? No comment.
