Year of the Takeout Day 143: Apple Sticks?

Apple Sticks (from ANYWHERE)

Apple sticks seem to be a thing on Northeast Cantonese-American takeout menus -- they are everywhere! -- whereas these breaded, fried batons of gelatinous fruit aren't present in the South. They taste like the (insecure) lovechild of a McDonald's apple pie and a 7-Eleven taquito. The mouthfeel is akin to gnawing on a mealy onion ring, albeit one with a buttery, cinnamon scent.

Here's another fun fact: along with cheese sticks and crab rangoon, some restaurateurs report that apple sticks are among the most popular takeout items.
