Catch Up with Florent, Queen of the Meatpacking District

Categories: Good Stuff

Florent Morellet opened the legendary 24-hour diner on Gansevoort Street in 1985 and closed it in 2008, after the landlord announced a rent increase of over $30,000 a month. We can't go back in time, but we can watch the 2011 documentary, Florent, Queen of the Meatpacking District, which chronicled the last days of the beloved institution. It airs on WNET/Thirteen on Sunday, June 17 at 11 p.m.

Curious about what's he up to now? Morellet serves on Manhattan's Community Board 2 and is focusing on his art and cartography art. And no, he doesn't have plans to open another restaurant. In fact, Morellet wrote a funny post about just that for Thirteen's blog.
