Tick Bite Making People Vegetarian
Known as the "lone star tick," researchers are saying that a bite from it can trigger allergic reactions toward meat. "People will eat beef and then anywhere from three to six hours later start having a reaction; anything from hives to full-blown anaphylactic shock," Dr. Scott Commins, assistant professor of medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville told Good Morning America.
Cases of the allergy are popping up along the East Coast and into the Bible Belt. According to CNN, the food allergy, known as galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose, or alpha-gal for short, is affecting more than 1,500 Americans.
