Free Yoplait Greek Yogurt Samples On Friday, But Is It Actually Yogurt?

Another free food event for this week (check out the others here and here). Yoplait will be giving out free samples of their Greek yogurt on August 3 from 7am-11am. The new product called Greek 100 -- is a Weight Watchers endorsed product and comes at 100 calories per serving.

This comes in the wake of a lawsuit against the product that claims the stuff isn't Greek or yogurt.

According to the lawsuit: "Yoplait Greek does not comply with the standard of identity of yogurt. Indeed, Yoplait Greek contains Milk Protein Concentrate ("MPC") which is not among the permissible ingredients of yogurt, non-fat yogurt, and low-fat yogurt (collectively "yogurt") as set forth under the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act."

General Mills's defense is that the FDA never explicitly prohibited the protein in yogurt.

The lawsuit is still in its early stages and has yet to play out. But for those of us who really don't care about the details and just want the free yogurt, the company will be at Central Park, Times Square, SoHo, and Columbus Circle on Friday. Follow their Twitter handle @Yoplait for updates of their specific locations Friday morning.
