This week's review is of Neta. Nick Kim and Jimmy Lau, formerly of Masa and Bar Masa, opened their low-key, West Village sushi bar earlier this year. Along with traditional, upscale sushi, Neta serves American-accented spicy salmon rolls (see below) and plenty of hot dishes like crispy rice cakes topped with salmon and bonito (see above). Neta serves an omakase of about 10 small plates for $95. But on a less spendy night, you can stop in for beer, a little bowl of uni porridge, and a hot fish collar. And you'll feel welcome either way.

The restaurant is stark, but the seats along the bar give you a great view of the sushi chefs and the cooks working the hot line.
