This week's review is of Sorella, a small restaurant and wine bar on the Lower East Side. Emma Hearst and Sarah Krathen opened Sorella in 2008 when they were in their early twenties and have gone on, night after night, serving wonderfully rich Italian food along with some increasingly adventurous daily specials. If you haven't been, or if you'd forgotten about the place, it's time for another visit. The team has plans to expand their tiny dining room by the first week of September and are currently working on their first cookbook.
The broccoli fritto turns broccoli into something truly special--fried in a tempura batter and layered with pickled-pepper aioli and Grana Padano.

Crisp sweetbreads with mustard, honey, and cherries. The dish evokes a fast-food chicken basket in the most delightful way.
