Get Ready for Two Big Meat Parties
Two spectacularly meaty events are just around the corner.
Governor Island will become Pig Island this Saturday afternoon, when chefs serve pork from Møsefund Farm, Raven & Boar, Fossil Farms, and a number of local hog farms. Participating chefs include King Phojanakong of Kuma Inn, Shaunna Sargent of Betto, and John Stage of Dinosaur BBQ, to name a few.
Though the event is decidedly pork-centric, we hear that cook and author Cathy Erway will be running a vegetable relief tent, which will include South Indian stir fry from Chitra Agrawal and veggie burgers from Lukas Volger.
Tickets are $85 and include unlimited food and unlimited beer from Sixpoint. (Note, the Village Voice is a sponsor of this event and the Voice Street team will be on site.)
On the following Saturday, September 8, Randall's Island Park will transform into a "City of Meat" for Josh Ozersky's Meatopia, now in its ninth year.
Nearly 40 chefs will run this makeshift city: Visit Carcass Hill for April Bloomfield's whole Hampshire hog with spicy pepper seasoning, or The Quarter for Naomi Pomeroy's "finger meat" with pickled watermelon remoulade. Over in Offalwood, Noah Bernamoff will be serving grilled veal brisket with charred garlic scapes.
