This cheerful oasis on Vanderbilt Avenue fills thick slices of soft white bread with pillows of grated horseradish and a few slices of Benton's bacon (which aren't cooked too dark so they're still pliable and full of flavor). Part of the joy of Katz's is waiting in line and watching as the old-timers behind the counter slice through the fatty, smoked meat to-order (we all have our favorite carvers, and mine offers me hot morsels of pastrami while I stare). The guys at the Alleva Dairy at 188 Grand St make some of the best sandwiches i've ever eaten. Wonderful bread that is crispy outside and soft and light inside. They add some of their superb fresh cheese (your choice) and some of their wonderful cold meats (salamis, hams, beef, chicken and cured meats); before finishing it off with fresh tomato, lettuce, a shake of pepper&salt, some mayo and finally a sprinkling of oil and vinegar. DIVINE!

I would say the Mile End's Weck IS tasty.....but it's really not a traditional Weck. It shouldnt be hot beef. I found that odd. It's just cold rare roast beef w/ the roll, and maybe some au jus on the side. Traditionally.

Mile End's poutine w/ pastrami tho? Holy shit that is one incredible dish!! Guess it's not a sandwich tho....haha

Location info for Pork Slope is incorrect (hint: you even listed a 718 phone #!). It's NOT on the edge of Curry Hill as alleged in the article. 247 5th Avenue (Brooklyn 11215) is in fact the former location of our dear departed Aunt Suzy's Restaurant, on Fifth Avenue near Carroll Street. That said, it appears there's a precedent for good food at that address. Gotta go check out that Porky Melt, & the rest of the place.
