Dish #33 is a charred, sweet-savory delight

Welcome to 100 Dishes to Eat Now, the tasty countdown leading up to our "Best of 2012" issue. Tune in each day (weekends too!) for a new dish from the Fork in the Road team.

Peach, bacon, and fontina flatbread $17

This cozy Red Hook restaurant and wine bar makes a crackling thin flatbread, rippled and charred, topped with soft sliced peaches, crisp strips of bacon, and a touch of stinky fontina. It's a wonderful way to start the day when you're craving sweetness, but need something more satisfying and complex than a stack of syrup-drizzled pancakes. It's also a fine, savory snack to have beside you in the evening, while you sip some wine in the breezy garden. A bit pricy, but great for sharing (see how it's made here).
