What's Happening This Week: Macaron Café, Crab Feast
Monday, September 3
Alobar's Tomato Festival. Chef Ian Kapitan of Alobar is offering a rotating menu of tomato dishes supporting local farms in celebration of the harvest season at $30 per person for two courses, including a cocktail or glass of wine. Dishes include tomato-watermelon salad, roasted-tomato housemade ricotta ravioli, and grilled wild salmon summer vegetables.
Tuesday, September 4
Have an Extra Dessert Day. Visit any Macaron Café in the city (there are three locations), and with your purchase of a half-dozen or more, you'll receive a free KORRES Lip Butter as your "extra treat."
Friday, September 7
All-You-Can-Eat Crab Feast. Hammer & Claws is an all-you-can-eat annual crab feast that occurs the weekend after Labor Day. Now in its second year, it will take place in the historic Tunnel Space of the Terminal Stores building in Chelsea (269 11th Avenue, between West 27th and West 28th Streets). Throughout the three-day festival, approximately 40,000 Maryland blue crabs will be steamed with 1,750 lbs of Old Bay, and cracked with 5,000 mallets. There will also be all-you-can eat crabs and all-you-can-drink wine and beer. Tickets start at $89 per person.
Saturday, September 8
Saturday Morning Cartoons with Augenblick Studios. Augenblick Studios on Saturday from 12pm - 2pm will be hosting a morning of grown-up cartoons and breakfast at Bellwether. Aaron Augenblick, animation director of Wonder Shozen, will curate the two hour showing of weirdo cartoon classics from the past 100 years. $10 admission includes complimentary mimosa or Modelo, as well as house made cereal from Chef Dan Ross-Leutwyler. Heritage Radio Network's First Annual Membership Party. Heritage Radio Network will be throwing its first membership party in the back garden of Roberta's Pizza. The food lineup includes Michael Anthony of Gramercy Tavern, Shana Pacifico of Back Forty West, Phillip Gilmour of Momo Sushi, along with an Essex Street Market Table featuring American farmstead cheeses. Event cocktails will be curated by Dave Arnold and will feature spirits from Absolut Vodka, Plymouth Gin, Perrier-Jouet, Galliano L'Autentico, and some mezcal from El Buho. Each ticket includes a complimentary one-year membership to the HeritageRadioNetwork.org.
