A New Food and Design Market in Brooklyn

This Saturday a new market launches in Gowanus, with plans to run on girl power.

Gowanus Girls will feature all-women designers and food makers, mostly from Brooklyn. The market is curated by Curious Jane, an after-school program and summer camp for girls that promotes design, collaboration and community, and run its offices out of Gowanus.

Gowanus Grove (formerly known as BKLYN Yard) will host the eclectic market rain or shine, and in addition to pork buns and cookies, you'll find handcrafted leather goods, artisanal soaps, mulled wine, and crafty activity booths set up for kids.

Curious Jane founder Samantha Razook Murphy, along with market founder Melisa Coburn, have lined up some great vendors:

The ladies of FattyCakes, Jane Gish of Super Foxy Sweets, Lisa Bedell of Brooklyn Nuts, and Ashley Weavil of The Fat Beagle, to name a few.

If you can't make it this week, a second edition of Gowanus Girls runs a bit later this month. And if all goes well, Coburn tells us the market may pop up again next year.

Gowanus Grove, 400 Carroll Street, October 13 & 27, noon - sundown
