What's Happening This Week: Aki Matsuri, An Apple Festival
Tuesday, October 2
Pulled Pork @ City Grit. City Grit will be hosting a pulled pork dinner. Tickets are $55 and there will be a slow roasted bo ssäm snack, some fried chicken, and southern sides. Limited seating and the event begins at 7:30 pm.
Tibet Fund Dinner. The Tibet Fund will celebrate another year with a special five-course dinner hosted by Eric Ripert, Laurent Manrique, and other top chefs. It will take place at Le Cirque and pay tribute to humanitarian and activist Lodi Gyaltsen Gyari, former Special Envoy to the Dalai Lama. Tickets cost $1,000 per person for an individual seat, and full and half-sized table sponsorships are available for $10,000, $15,000, and $25,000 respectively. Landmarc Wine Dinner. Chef Marc Murphy's Tribeca restaurant Landmarc will once again host its themed wine dinner series starting this Tuesday and for the first dinner of the series Landmarc has partnered with Wine of Chiles. To complement the wine, chef Marc Murphy has created a Chilean inspired menu. Tickets are $85 for a four course dinner.
Brooklyn Shaken & Stirred. The event will bring together Brooklyn cocktail bars, restaurants, winemakers and distillers for a night of cocktails and artisanal spirits, beer and wine from 6 to 9pm at The Green Building (452 Union Street, Carroll Gardens). It will feature cocktails made with small-batch liquors, boutique local wines, and beer accompanied by food. Tickets are $45 (inclusive of all the food and drink).
Baking Out Loud. Chef Marcus Samuelsson will host dinner at his restaurant Red Rooster Harlem to celebrate Baking Out Loud, the new cookbook from Hedy Goldsmith, pastry chef at Michael's Genuine restaurant in Miami. The James Beard Foundation Award-nominated pastry expert will be on hand to talk about her new tome as Marcus honors her with a three-course tasting menu. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Red Rooster Harlem, tickets cost $95 ($125 with wine pairings) and include a signed copy of Baking Out Loud.
Wednesday, October 3
Antinori Cantinetta Pop-Up. Marchesi Antinori, the family-owned Italian wine company that has been making wine for more than 625 years,will be bringing Cantinetta Antinori to New York City for a four day pop-up restaurant and wine experience at Mondrian SoHo, 9 Crosby Street, from October 3 to October 6. For a price of $165 per person, guests will get a four-course Tuscan menu designed entirely around wine pairings from the Antinori family's historic estates.
Thursday, October 4
Aki Matsuri. The Gohan Society, a New York State not-for-profit charity, will be holding a fundraiser to at the Brooklyn Brewery in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn on Thursday, October 4th, 2012. Guests will participate in a 'dine-around' environment with eleven of the restaurants including Blue Ribbon Brooklyn, Gramercy Tavern, and Morimoto. The food will accompanied by a variety of artisanal sake from different regions of Japan. A portion of revenue will be donated to the Japanese American Association's Japan Relief Fund to aid victims of Japan's 3/11 disaster.
Sunday, October 7
Apple Festival. From 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm, The Drink (228 Manhattan Avenue) in Williamsburg will be hosting a apple festival. Seattle's Pie Stand will be slinging slices of apple pie and they will be celebrating the fall launch of The Drink's beloved Hot Wassail, a boozy punch featuring Red Jacket Cider. There will be fresh-baked apple pie, ciders, bobbing for apples, and square dancing.
