Yes, there is booze in those cupcakes.

How can you make the innocuous cupcake all grown up? You spike it, of course. And besides a simple chocolate high, everyone would surely love a little buzz from their dessert. Emeche Cupcakes ("emeche" meaning tipsy en Français) is a tiny bakery brought to Brooklyn by Chicago native Janell Richmond, whose spin on the cupcake craze is all about injecting cocktail class to the whimsical treat. Now a one-woman show, expanding her brand seems like a daunting task. But it's one she won't be able to put off for too long. In just more than a year of starting Emeche, she has managed to capture the attention of brands like Barefoot Wine and Absolut Vodka.

Her varieties, which come both in regular and mini sizes, are always changing and mirror the seasons. To kick off autumn's arrival, she bakes a spiced rum and pumpkin-topped cupcake with hazelnut liqueur buttercream and a caramel-apple cupcake spiked with bourbon. Her fast sellers are ones with a boozy filling, like the Lemon Drop Martini filled with a limoncello custard and a Creamcicle Cupcake filled with orange liqueur custard. Without a storefront or set market schedule, Richmond takes online orders and will deliver anywhere in the tri-state area.

But if you don't want to wait for Emeche to come to your door, you've got two chances to get tipsy and charitable this weekend in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. A portion of the proceeds from the Holiday Spirits Bazaar will go to fund the Children's Aid Society of New York. Guests are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or nonperishable food item to donate.
