Where to Splurge During Truffle Season

Truffle season is in full swing, and restaurants are doling them out with the fungi's notoriously high price tags. If you're a truffle fiend, indulge in a tasting menu. For the newb, maybe a small dish or one of these special deals is your best bet, but the delicacy is best served in a steaming plate of pasta smothered in cheese.

Maialino: Danny Meyer's Romani trattoria offers a truffle tasting menu with four courses of pasta, a cocktail, and a dessert for $200 a plate.
LIC Market: For a less-pricey truffle plan, LIC Market will host a four-course menu that features black and white truffles paired with other local fair. Diners can sit at either 6 p.m. or 9 p.m. for $65 a person.
Lincoln: On Monday night, Jonathan Benno -- who is apparently also known as the "World Ambassador of White Truffles of Alba" -- will prepare a truffle-infused five-course meal and wine pairing for $285 a person.
Frank, Supper, and Sauce: Chef Frank Prisinzano brings truffles to his downtown digs with special dishes like a risotto mantecato. At Sauce and Supper, diners can buy truffles by the "few" for $20, "bunch" for $50, or "shower" for $75. At Frank, the prices are $39.95, $49.95, and $59.95, respectively.
