Steve's Key Lime Pies is open in Red Hook, but Swingles might take a while.

For 105 years, Gargiulo's Restaurant in Coney Island hosted banquet-size parties and served Italian food that at one time deserved three stars from The New York Times. On Saturday, the family restaurant opened for the first time since Hurricane Sandy.

"Thank God we had a good weekend," said Nino Russo, one of the owners. "It feels like the light at the end of the tunnel that we're up and running. There was a lot of mess, lot of destruction, and a lot of loss. We'll get through it."

Steve's Key Lime Pies, the single-menu-item darling in Red Hook, was able to open its doors to walk-ins for the first time this weekend. Samantha Citrin, the store manager, said they baked last week and were able to fulfill orders for wholesale customers. "We're not putting out at the normal quantity because we have limited freezer and refrigerator storage, but we're headed in the right direction."

But the Swingles-craving folk will have to wait a little longer for the chocolate-covered mini key lime pies. Citrin said they haven't been able to make those just yet. "We're just trying to get back and replenish our stock of crust and all that." After missing the Thanksgiving season, Steve's is focused on the holidays. "We're hoping to get restaurants and stores ordering to get us back on track."

Mark Joseph Steakhouse tweeted that it will open in the financial district today, just in time for the busy holiday month.
