Will Food52 dedicate today to champagne recipes? Unlikely, but the cooking website -- helmed by former NY Times scribe Amanda Hesser and co-creator Merrill Stubbs -- has good reason to celebrate. Yesterday, the duo announced that they've closed their "Series A" funding after raising $2 million in investments.

Venture capital bigwigs like Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, Vocap Ventures, and others are standing behind the community-based food website. Hesser and Stubbs write that the funds will allow their brand to extend its reach throughout the culinary world.

In a post on their site, they explain that "we'll be improving our user experience for all mobile devices. We have a great new shop, unlike any other, in the works. And we'll be expanding our publishing platform through an innovative partnership with Random House, Inc."
