La Newyorkina's Pineapple Jalapeño Paleta, One of Our 100 Favorite Dishes

Until then, you can get a taste of our contenders as we count down, in no particular order, our 100 favorite dishes from around the boroughs, a list of laudable eats worth tracking down right now.
No. 85: Pineapple jalapeño paleta from La Newyorkina
We've loved Fany Gerson's ice pops since she first appeared at the Hester Street Fair three years ago, and we're glad to see she's back in action after Hurricane Sandy destroyed her commissary kitchen and much of her equipment, a serious setback for a business she's grown to a number of carts all around the city. (A Kickstarter campaign funded by her fans helped her rebuild.) While we adore many of her paleta flavors, we're not sure there's a better way to ring in the summer than with her pineapple jalapeño variety, an icy blend of sweet-tart fruit matched to tongue- and lip-tickling spikes of pepper-induced heat. The pop comes laden with real chunks of both ingredients, too, and a dislodged bit of pineapple makes for a pleasant, extra-juicy bite.
