From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., escape the 6 train and sample $8 cocktails and $6 glasses of wine before heading home. This brand new happy hour features a drink selection curated by Jason Littrell, who focuses on classic creations from around the globe (examples include the Gold Rush and Pisco Sour). Snack on cheap bites like pork or beef sliders with french fries while your mixologist muddles away.
Louro, 142 West 10th Street
If you can't wait for David Santos' next epic theme dinner, new happy hour specials might help tide you over. From 5:30 to 7:30 and after 10 p.m., you'll be privy to a changing selection of complimentary small bites (a.k.a. petiscos) like Portuguese disco fries and seafood fritters when you order a $4 beer, $6 glass of wine, or $8 cocktail. Need something more substantial? Slurp down $1 oysters.
The Pony Bar, 637 10th Avenue/1444 First Avenue
Six bucks for each craft beer on the list is a pretty screamin' deal, and it's one that's available any time Pony Bar is open. But during happy hour, which runs from 4:20 to 5:20 p.m., you can knock an additional $2 off your pour. With two locations and a live count of current beers on tap, the hardest part isn't finding an excuse to leave work early, it's what to pick once you get there.
