The Museum of Food and Drink Explodes in Brooklyn With a Star-Studded Party (PHOTOS)
Cars began clogging the intersection at the corner of Union and Bond Streets last evening around dusk to gawk at what appeared to be a U-Haul trailer made of glass. Atop the transparent truck stood various chefs in formal wear, vigorously cranking an enormous gear before screaming, "Fire in the hole!" And then the chefs--as well as most of the truck--disappeared in a thunderous puff of white smoke that, once settled, revealed a massive blue tarp piled with steaming mounds of ... cereal.

The contraption was actually a 3,200 pound puffing gun originally used to make puffed cereals like Kix in the early 1900s; the machine will be the first exhibit of the Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD), which debuts publicly on Saturday at Summer Streets (it'll be in Foley Square from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.).
Last evening's preview in Carroll Gardens was just one of several fundraising efforts (which also included a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $100K last month). Located at the Green Building, guests enjoyed a short rib dinner from Momofuku's Ma Peche and Cap'n Crunch Cake by Milk Bar along with cocktails by Booker & Dax's Dave Arnold, MOFAD's President and Founder. Hosted with remarks by Ted Allen, the celebrity chef-studded room also enjoyed puffed cereal snacks directly from the gun, which were seasoned with various toppings in a miniature cement mixer.
