Rooftop Farming at Brooklyn Grange (PHOTOS)
|A view inside the vine, see all those little round cucumbers hanging in there?|Meet kale: It may have become a Brooklyn cliche, but it's also irresistibly pretty and healthy to eat. These ground cherry bushes are beginning to fruit but have a ways to go. And baby chard is growing well in heat-cracked soil. That grainy mulch you see comprises coco hulls from Mast Brothers Chocolate. It smells amazing! Chard stems let you taste the rainbow... ...And later, these Feherozon peppers will ripen to a streaky orange-red and their flavor will deepen and get really sweet. Squash here... ...Sunset there. This year, Grange CSA members can opt in for cut flowers in their weekly produce baskets: here, zinnias! Last look: the garden seen through the stairwell as we exit to street level.
