Don't be fooled by this crisp weather quite yet, New York; there are still a couple of weeks before the autumnal equinox, and Mother Nature plans to give us at least one more hurrah later this week when temperatures climb back into the 80s and 90s. Consider it a chance to relish a little more patio time before we really do have to call it a season. On Friday, we listed a few decks we find ideal for end-of-the-summer eating and drinking, one of which can be found at Biang!, the Xi'an Famous Foods Flushing sibling that's considerably more dressed up than the no-frills counter service noodle shops that pepper the city and made this particular brand of food famous. While you'll find many of the Xi'an classics on the menu at Biang!--including the epic spicy and tingly hand-pulled noodles--you'll also have a chance to dabble in some new items like skewered meats and a dozen or so appetizers. Don't skip the lotus root salad, a deceptively simple-looking platter of crisp, sliced root enlivened with a tart, earthy sesame vinaigrette, the zing of copious amounts of fresh ginger, and the mouth-tickling chilies ubiquitous in the fare here. Served at room temperature (as opposed to chilled, like most salads), it also feels like an appropriate nod to the waning warm months.
