Bronx Brewery Black Pale Ale to Arrive November 1
Just in time for cooler weather and fall foliage, the seasonal winter brew from Bronx Brewery is about to hit the tap: The brewery is gearing up to release Bronx Black Pale Ale, a dark and malty take on the style of beer it's become known for.
Available November 1, the beer combines dark chocolate and tropical fruit flavors with heavy malts, a departure from the crisp characteristics of the summer release. And the brewery has another special project in the works, too: "At some point this winter we'll also be releasing last year's Black Pale Ale that has been aging in Scorpion mezcal barrels for the last 12 months," co-owner Damian Brown says. It's a part of the brewery's new initiative to age their staple beers in a variety of barrels, which range from bourbon to zinfandel.
Those barrels are about to get a new home. A new 8,000-square-foot Bronx Brewery tasting room and brew facility in the Port Morris neighborhood are in development. "The tasting room and new brewery facility are coming along slowly but surely," says Brown. "All of the brewhouse, cellar, and canning equipment has been purchased and manufactured, and we should be awarding the demolition and construction project to a general contractor by early October, and are expecting roughly a four month build-out." Brown and partner Chris Gallant have plans for a completely revamped space to brew and bottle their rave-worthy pale ales, including an area to collect and experiment with various barrels. They're working with New York Design Architects, DPB Architectural Services, and DME Brewing Services on the build and layout for the 20bbl brewhouse and cellar with 20 and 40bbl tanks (one bbl, by the way, is 42 gallons). They also plan to have an outdoor yard with a dog run and food truck pit stop, making this a beer-tasting oasis near the banks of the East River.
