Circolo Reopens Tonight as Circolo45 With a New Chef On Board
It was just after New Year's Day when the team behind Tulum resort Posada Margherita first debuted a New York City Italian restaurant on Bond Street; Circolo opened with a Tuscan chef and menu, white-washed brick walls, and wooden tables. Just nine months later, though, the space took a short recess and went through a re-brand: It re-opens tonight as Circolo45, with new chef Daniele Sicuranza rolling out a roster of primarily Florentine dishes.

"We changed all of the style," says Sicuranza. "It's warmer, and there are more Italian dishes." Brown leather tufted banquettes now line walls accented orange and gray, and a high community table replaces some of the original seating. There will be some bar seating, too, where patrons can watch a chef prepare cheese plates. Many of the fixtures--including that bar and several of the tables--are custom-built with distressed wood, which gives the space that once had a bit of a farmhouse feel an urban update.
From those new digs, Sicuranza plans to serve fare he honed during time owning restaurants in Milan. He'll up the ante on pasta, turning out spaghetti a la chitarra and paccheri Genovese--"the best pasta," he says--a torus-shaped noodle topped with veal and pork ragu. He's added dishes he calls "very classic," too, including a lasagna with meat sauce and his cod fish recipe, which supplements the fish with Taggiasche olives, homemade mayo, anchovies, capers, and gherkins.
Sicuranza also lent his hand to the drinks program, most notably expanding the wine list to include more Italian bottles.
