Black Tree, a Visual Feast
James A. Foley headed to Black Tree (131 Orchard Street, 212-533-4684)--where he once ate a revelatory watermelon sandwich--for last week's review, exploring the shop's philosophy on seasonality and locavorism. "The philosophy behind Black Tree harnesses the modern food zeitgeist: Keep it local and sustainable, while also making it beautiful, accessible, and most important, delicious," he writes. "But there is also a haunting, ephemeral quality to the sandwiches at Black Tree--they are not long for this world, and every time you have one could be the last."
