The Blue Moon Burger Bash returns this year on Friday October 18
On this special Monday morning, we celebrate the anniversary of Columbus silencing his haters once and for all. And what better way to pay tribute to the famed explorer than to search the greater New York City area for a selection of fine food and drink. Here's a look at what's happening this week in our brave new world:

Free Pasta at Giovanni Rana Pastificio & Cucina, Chelsea Market, 75 9th Avenue, Tuesday, 11 a.m.

If you're training for the upcoming marathon by carbo loading, you should probably consider a free pasta giveaway at Chelsea Market. In honor of founder Giovanni Rana's birthday this year, customers receive one free pound of raw tagliatelle. Those dining in house will also receive a complimentary chocolate ravioli dessert to cap off their meal.

Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival, multiple locations, Thursday through Sunday

Television's biggest food personalities descend upon the city for four days of demonstrations, dinners, and late night revelry. Fan favorites like The Blue Moon Burger Bash hosted by Rachael Ray return along with a tailgate party featuring Mario Batali and Joe Namath. For a more intimate affair, check out a selection of dinners like Ivan Ramen's Taste of Tokyo event on Sunday. A full schedule and tickets can be found through the festival's web site.

Book Signing with Allen Salkin, Burger Bistro, 1663 First Avenue, Thursday, 6 p.m.

Author and former New York Times reporter Allen Salkin will sign copies of his new book From Scratch: Inside the Food Network and provide a brief overview of his latest work. Purchase your copy of his publication for $25 and get a $10 gift certificate to Burger Bistro. Osso bucco sliders--an entrant in the New York City Food and Wine Festival's Grand Tasting--and apple cider sangria will keep you sated while you wait for Salkin's signature.

Wine Under The Stars, Havemeyer Park, South Fourth Sttreet between Wythe and Kent Avenues, Brooklyn, Friday, 7 p.m.

Brooklyn Oenology will offer a variety of its wines for an evening overlooking the Manhattan skyline. Romantic types are invited to sip $7 glasses of vino or go all out for a picnic basket ($45), which will include wine, cheese, pate, and Mast Brothers Chocolate. $1 oysters will also be available to celebrate the final evening of this series before picnicking season comes to an end.
