Trophy Bar, 351 Broadway, Brooklyn
The neon light shaped like a trophy guides people to a hidden happy hour special showcase. From 5 to 8 p.m., sip $5 bloody marys and $4 drafts and mulled wine. There are also plenty of food options -- cheeseburgers and grilled cheese are just $4 apiece. Take in sets from the DJ while you imbibe -- just don't let the cat that patrols the backyard inside for a dance number.
Big Bar, 75 East 7th Street
This under-the-radar bar in the East Village offers a big happy hour special to live up to its namesake. From 5 to 8 p.m., Blue Point drafts and margaritas are $5, and well drinks and glasses of wine are just four bucks. Just be warned: There are only a few booths and a couple of stools at this bar, so if you're planning to take advantage of these specials, it's best to arrive early.
The Belfry, 222 East 14th Street
With a sign outside advertising $5 picklebacks all day, it's easy to see why people get batty at this 14th Street cave. In addition to happy hour deals (available from 4 to 8 p.m.), a daily $5 shot-and-can-of-beer (PBR or Tecate) special runs from 6 to 11 p.m. The bar's booze selection is made up of imported and craft beer and features a variety of classic cocktails like the Moscow Mule.
Pieces, 8 Christopher Street
This Greenwich Village gay bar offers a solid value during its 2 to 8 p.m. happy hour, when you'll get $3 liquor, beer, and wine. But even after 8 p.m., the drinks are still a value at $6 -- and shots are a buck. If you're around on the weekend, you might head this way for drag queen bingo after a boozy brunch. Starting at 2 p.m., margaritas, mimosas, and bloody marys are $3, which should cushion the blow of not having your numbers called.
