Dillinger's Pelmeni, Our Cheap Eat of the Day
Pelmeni from Dillinger's (146 Evergreen Avenue, Brooklyn, 347-260-2123), $7
Free wireless, good design, Dough pastries, and nice espresso drinks makes this an appealing spot to set up shop -- and the Russian fare, which is cheap, is a welcome bonus.
A couple of weeks ago, we gave you a first look of this new Bushwick coffeehouse, a good spot, we noted, to get work, sip espresso, and find Russian specialties like borscht and apple pancakes. We'll go out of our way, though, to return for the pelmeni, Russian dumplings stuffed with pepper-spiked beef, pork, mushrooms, or veal. The thinly wrapped pockets come sided with sour cream and vinegar for dipping, welcome supplements to the buttery coating of the dish. The bits of flat leaf parsley add a nice crisp lift to the finish -- and one $7 order is enough for lunch. Nab a Dough pastry if you're looking for dessert.
