Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and if you're coupled up, it's likely you're gearing up to spend a wad of cash. Pinch your pennies and still eat well at this line-up of cheap eats, a list of sub-$10 dishes you can find across the boroughs.
Duzan via Facebook
Duzan, 2411 Steinway Street, Queens, 718-204-7488
On the Little Egypt strip of Steinway Street that runs between Astoria Boulevard and 28th Avenue, Duzan is a gem that could be easily overlooked for its fast food ambiance. But inside, visitors will find warm hospitality and what some argue is the best falafel in the city. Pick up a sandwich -- falafel and shawarma are the most popular -- wrapped in fresh, warm pita (from $5), or get a platter with a side of salad and french fries or rice (from $7). --Alanna Schubach
Pho Pasteur, 85 Baxter Street, 212-608-3656
Across the street from the Tombs in city government land, Pho Pasteur serves up huge, steaming noodle soups to warm your wintery heart. Most of the menu rings in at under $10, but we're particularly smitten with the super-simple pho chin nam ($5.50) with tender Vietnamese brisket and vegetables, just waiting to be piled high with crisp bean sprouts and basil. --Hannah Palmer Egan
