Map: The 99 Essential Restaurants in Lower Manhattan

This week's Village Voice feature story answers the question many New Yorkers face every night: Where are we going to eat?

As a guide, we present 99 Essential Restaurants™ in Lower Manhattan, compiled by Voice food editor Laura Shunk, along with contributors Zachary Feldman, Tom Finkel, Caryn Ganeles, Jessica Lee, Scarlett Lindeman, Billy Lyons, Hannah Palmer Egan, Nicole Schnitzler, and Alanna Schubach.

If you're feeling ambitious, here's a map pin-pointing each of our 99 in relation to each other.

The rules for inclusion:
This inaugural edition of 99 Essential Restaurants™ covers the seven square miles below 34th Street, down to Battery Park. Beyond that geographic constraint, our only eligibility requirement is that the restaurant has to have been open for business on January 1, 2013.

It has Annisa, so it makes up for any of the mistakes

Also missing: Nobu, which just celebrated 20 years; Tribeca Grill- approaching 25 years; Luke's Lobster; Lombardi's- an institution; Grimaldi's- also a pizza palace; Mogador- probably the standard for East Village Moroccan; Jane, which should be on here next to Prune; Da Silvano; and a few others. I would argue that food carts and Shake Shack, though excellent, shouldn't qualify as proper restaurants due to seating limitations. Similarly, if you're putting Tasty, Congee, etc on here, you should be obligated to include Joe's Shanghai.

Seems like you left out a restaurant that's been an essential to the East Village and celebrating 28 years this week:  Cucina Di Pesce.
