Update your collection at the Food Book Fair Pop Up Shop, debuting Friday
Has the end of tax season left you feeling, well, taxed? Reward yourself with a beer or ice cream at a museum -- two of the best events happening this week.

Learn How to Make Ice Cream, Children's Museum of Manhattan, 212 West 83rd Street, Monday, 10 a.m.

Start your week on a sweet note (or get the kids out of the house) at the new STEAM lab at the Children's Museum, which is running a demonstration on how to make homemade ice cream. Scientists from the New York Hall of Science will lead a discussion on how modern techniques are used to compose the delicious treat, with samples included. The demonstration is part of a Meet the Makers Festival, which will run until April 22 and features visiting artists and educators leading workshops on everything from designing instruments out of recycled goods to making kinetic sculptures out of raw materials.

Piedmont Dinner at Hearth, Hearth, 403 East 12th Street, Tuesday, 7 p.m.

As an an alternative to traditional holiday feasts, Marco Canora is inviting guests out to a four course dinner celebrating the rich culinary region of Piedmont. Dishes include the sliced veal specialty vitello tonatto, tajarin, porcini and pork ragu, and beef in barolo. For dessert, the chef is preparing creamy custard known as budino. Tickets are $125 and include wine pairings.

Taste the Museum: Beers from Around the World, American Museum of Natural History, Central Park West and 79th Street, Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.

Enjoy brews courtesy of Dogfish Head Brewery as archaeologists Patrick McGovern and Kevin Cullen lead a tour on ancient brewing techniques. They'll discuss beers like kvasir, whose recipe was developed from archaeological evidence taken from an ancient Danish drinking vessel. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased through the museum's website.

Food Book Fair Pop Up Shop, Wythe Hotel, 80 Wythe Avenue, Friday, noon

In advance of the Food Book Fair, attendees will have the opportunity to pick up copies of titles such as elBulli 2005-2011 at the annual festival's pop-up shop. A selection of over 150 titled and 20 food magazines will be available for purchase, and the temporary book store will also host a series of author talks: Erin Gleeson of The Forest Feast and Alison Kave of First Prize Pies are both scheduled to appear this Friday.
