When one restaurant's doors close, another restaurant's doors open in fast-paced New York City, and every Friday, we'll fill you in on what opened up around town this week. This week: a Philly favorite finds a home in NYC, and an old favorite is back after being revamped.

El Vez, 259 Vesey Street, 212-233-2500

Restaurateur Stephen Starr just brought his Philly favorite, El Vez, to New York City. "We want this restaurant to be fun," the restaurateur told us earlier this week. "Not high-end or super fancy: fun for people who live and work in the area, and especially those who live there." Look for a wide range of ceviches, guacamole, enchiladas, and more, and a patio that will open soon.

Tavern on the Green, Central Park and West 67th Street, 212-877-8684

Tavern on the Green is officially back (again). The restaurant has been around since 1934, though it's gone through the hands of several owners. Now that Jim Caiola and David Salama have taken control, gone is the gaudy dining room, and in its place is a tasteful space with dark wood accents. Chef Katy Sparks created an American menu featuring classic items like a pork chop, chicken, and steak.

The Pavilion, 20 Union Square West

The Pavilion at Union Square isvacant no more. Former Maison chef Mario Urgiles is commanding the space's kitchen, and the menu includes items like moules frites, short rib ravioli, and lots of vegetables (which is no surprise since the Union Square Market surrounds the joint). The Pavilion is open for dinner with plans to soon open for lunch as well.
