Dish no. 70: Turkish eggs at Public (210 Elizabeth Street, 212-343-7011)

During brunch hours in the summer, you'll find the windows and doors at Public thrown open; the morning light and a fresh breeze infiltrate the space, inviting you to settle into a lazy, carefree day. So start with a cocktail and maybe some sticky buns, and then order the Turkish eggs, which nets you a refreshing bed of cold, tart yogurt cradling a pair of warm poached eggs and blanketed with melted butter infused with spicy kirmizi biber peppers. Mix it all together and eat it with a spoon, then use the accompanying toast to scrape up the dregs.

In advance of our 2014 Best of NYC issue, we're traipsing through the boroughs and divulging our favorite dishes of the year. They're presented here as a countdown, but we're listing them in no particular order. Consider this a guide to what's good to eat in this town right this very second.
