Super Taste Restaurant's Steamed Dumplings, One of Our 100 Favorite Dishes

Dish no. 59: Steamed Dumplings from Super Taste Restaurant (26 Eldridge Street, 212-625-1198)

Just under the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge, this constantly busy canteen specializing in cuisine from Lanzhou, China, turns out handmade noodles and dumplings, and the kitchen makes dishes to order while you watch. Final products come in Styrofoam containers, always deep in flavor and ultra cheap. The steamed pork and scallion dumplings have fresh, nearly transparent wrappers with an almost silk-like texture; they hug the juicy pork meatballs laced with zippy fresh cut scallion. The best part: They cost $1 for four. And if you would like to have your own dumpling party at home, you can buy 50 of the same dumplings, frozen, for $9.

In advance of our 2014 Best of NYC issue, we're traipsing through the boroughs and divulging our favorite dishes of the year. They're presented here as a countdown, but we're listing them in no particular order. Consider this a guide to what's good to eat in this town right this very second.
