Happy Braai Day

braai.jpg

Today is South Africa's Braai Day, a national holiday when all South Africans are honor-bound to grill up some beastie. So this week, I check out Braai, the new South African barbecue spot in Hell's Kitchen.

The restaurant can be a bit amateurish in its tendancy to stack food high, and squirt sauces in elaborate, disfunctional squiggles all over the plate. But clearly someone cares very much about the meat, which is grilled nicely over "braai wood," which comes from an African olive tree.

Game like ostrich and venison get the braai treatment, but alas, there isn't any zebra. You'll have to click the clickity to find out about that.
