Celebrate the Mexican victory at the Battle of Puebla with these Cinco de Mayo fiestas:

Elizabeth in Nolita is hosting a Garden Party tonight from 5-7 pm featuring 50-cent shots of Tanteo tequila, 50-cent pulled pork, roasted chicken, grilled steak and veggie tacos, 50-cent scoops of Tanteo tequila-flavored sorbet and gelato designed by Il Laboratorio del Gelato, and $5 Tanteo cocktails. Expect a pinata to break at 7.

Cabrito has drink specials and a special street-food menu all day, then at 9 pm, the party kicks off with Mexican hip hop, pinatas and business card raffles every hour to win free tequila shots.

Firehouse's famed nachos will be the star tonight, which go great with a margarita... or two. For $15, get an order of nachos and two Firehouse margaritas, and if you're feeling really festive, you can add a shot of tequila for an extra buck.

Virgil's Cinco de Mayo menu features Shrimp Relleno, Enchiladas de Pollo and muchos margaritas of the frozen variety.

All three Mercadito restaurants will host live mariachi bands. The Avenue B location has a $30 Cinco de Mayo tasting menu, the West Village location has $6 Herradura tequila shots, and Mercadito Cantina is doing $5 shots of their tric-quila sake and tequila blend.

At Rosa Mexicano, it's a Mexican Masquerade, complete with sombreros and Lucha Libre wrestling masks. The most creative costumes will be eligible for prizes, and the first 200 people to show up in costume after 5 pm will get a free shot of 1800 tequila in a collectible shot glass.

Mike Licht says:

Cinco de Mayo is an adult holiday in the USA. It's not about history here, it's about limes and salt-rimmed glasses.

Thanks for reminding us what Cinco is all about, Mike. A shame most people don't know what they're drinking to.

I would love to perceive this better if if anyone has further info? Appears fascinating as I'm not acquainted with this subject.
