Oystermen are up in arms over a federal effort to ban the sale of raw oysters harvested during the warm months along the Gulf Coast, unless they're treated to destroy deadly bacteria. Raw oysters, they say, taste much better.
[NY Times]

Meanwhile, restaurateurs react to the proposed oyster ban, saying that, if anything, it's caused people to want to eat more raw oysters, especially in Louisiana, which might pass overriding legislation enabling its citizens -- and tourists -- to eat raw oysters.

The Food Network is getting ready to premiere a new show in January called Worst Cooks in America, a prime-time reality show that that involves a culinary boot camp lead by two celebrated chefs, Anne Burrell and Phoenix chef Beau MacMillan.
[NY Daily News]

Australian scientists have developed a new apple, dubbed RS103-130, that doesn't rot. The rare cross-breed, developed over the past 20 years, can stay fresh for months at a time thanks to a gene from a black-spot resistant Asiatic apple.
