'Inoteca (98 Rivington Street, 212-614-0473) needs wine drinkers.

Open since 2004, the restaurant started last night's service with 1,300 bottles in total, each one of which needs to be drained to dregs before Sunday morning at 4 a.m. when the doors will close for good. "We're hoping to get through it," co-owner Ethan Richardson says. "We're opening some crazy stuff by the glass that you'll never see."

Shuck One Out for Midtown's Famous Oyster Bar

Wes Anderson just lost a great filming location. After a 55-year run, Midtown's Famous Oyster Bar (842 Seventh Avenue, 212-586-6525) has closed its doors. The somewhat worn, nautical-themed seafood house was a war horse from a bygone era, remarkable in that it lasted for as long as it did. And there's no doubt it would have gone on surviving had a rent increase not prompted the untimely shutter. Although it had its own charm, I can't help but think that some of its patrons found their way inside its doors assuming it was the westside counterpoint to Grand Central's edible underground aquarium. Still, its neon signage shone like a bejeweled bezoar in the belly of this tourist-trapped beast.

Yesterday, the old school joint auctioned its kitchen equipment, flatware, and the many maritime knick knacks, trinkets, curios, and gewgaws that adorned the warmly-lit wood-paneled space. Its demise is unfortunate if unsurprising, but its neo-noir red glow will be sorely missed.

Gray's Papaya: One is the Onliest Number

And then there was one. Yesterday, the city shed a meaty tear as the Greenwich Village location of Gray's Papaya (402 Sixth Avenue) went down for the count. With a sole operation (on Broadway at 72nd) remaining to carry the torch, the closure marks a devastating blow to Big Apple dining culture.

Reached at his residence, owner Nicholas Gray confirms reports of a rent hike as the culprit for shutting down after 28 years of business. "They wanted to raise my rent to $50,000 from $30,000," he stated, adding that he plans to relocate as soon as he finds a suitable space. "We're always looking for corners, but they're hard to find." Of course they're hard to find -- look at that rent increase!
