​A tree made out of 40-gallon plastic jugs is the centerpiece of Chelsea Market's Christmas display.

One-eighth of people in the world drink water that makes them sick. Indeed, clean water is probably the planet's number one health priority; without it, chronic illness is inevitable. This tree -- made of the cans many in the third world use to carry water from unclean reservoirs, wells, and other sources -- symbolizes the pressing need for clean water, and our ability during the holiday season to remedy that need by contributing at charitywater.org.

Hooters to the rescue.

​In the wake of the biggest oil spill -- and, potentially, environmental disaster -- in history, leave it to the girls from Hooters to save the day. The chain's buxom waitresses are donating their panty hose to create booms (floating barriers to contain the spill) that would absorb the oil blanketing the Gulf of Mexico in a slick of orange reminiscent of the color of the girls' tight, short shorts.
